Gramvousa & Balos

Gramvoussa was fortified by the Venetians, who built a well-fortified castle in 16th century. Gramvousa was one of the last places to be conquered by the Turks (in 1692) and was the first place of Crete to be liberated from the Turks in 1825.
Opposite to the island is the wonderful beach and lagoon of Balos with the white sand and turquoise water.
